Jun Toguchi at the piano

About Jun Toguchi Profile

Biography

I started my musical training at the age of five in Tokyo, Japan. My father was a musicologist (you can find his name in the New Harvard Dictionary of Music) and gave me a wonderful education. I studied piano and composition with the best teachers in Japan until my teenage days. Some of my compositions were published in my early teens.

On the Rotary Scholarship I started living in the U.S. in 1987; the first place was Ann Arbor, MI. Later, I graduated from the New England Conservatory of music in Boston with M.M. in music theory, graduate Diploma in Piano Performance, and also from Berklee College of Music (film music major).

I worked as soloist, accompanist (voice, instrumentalist & dance, etc) and composer in the U.S. after my graduation on the artist visa for more than 15 years.

My main piano teacher was Ms. Nina Lelchuk who taught piano at Moscow Conservatory, The University of Michigan and Queen College in NY etc. Because of Dr. Lelchuk's teaching, I may be able to call my teaching style that of "Russian School", from where many of the world best pianists (and teachers) have emerged. I also had a chance to study jazz piano with Raymond Santi? at Berklee College.

My emphasis in teaching would be on basic piano teaching which will render the professional piano sound while considering each student's needs and enjoyment. I believe you would improve much more when you understand music and the piano better, and consequently love music more.
